Shakespeare’s Macbeth gets a Hokkien opera makeover in Warrior and Witches 《大将军和小巫婆》, an innovative and intercultural adaptation by the local Jade Opera Troupe (JOG). Scripted by noted Chinese opera director/scholar Dr Chua Soo Pong and co-directed by the founder of JOG, Hong Xiu Yu, Warrior and Witches seamlessly mixes Hokkien opera dance and music with classic Shakespearean play. All the songs and music are arranged by Hong Xiu Yu.

Warrior and Witches utilises the unique characteristics of opera to tell the story of Shakespeare's famous play about the lust for power and its tragic consequences in a specific milieu, yet with universal emotional resonance.

创作歌仔戏《大将军和小巫婆》改编自莎士比亚名剧《麦可博》.编剧蔡曙鹏博士以莎士比亚的故事为经，华族的历史精神为纬，让《大将军和小巫婆》揉合戏曲、舞蹈、舞台剧及电影手法，展现戏曲艺术活跃的融合能力与再创造的艳丽色彩。洪秀玉设计的唱腔有细腻的人物心理刻划。人性与魔性的挣扎，人情与礼法之间的选择，有精彩的展现。从巫婆上场，便经营造了一股慑人的气氛。整部戏充满了强烈的戏剧张力。全剧一气呵成，扣人心弦。《大将军和小巫婆》以歌仔戏特有的艺术魅力，消弭了語言文化對觀眾所造成的隔閡。这是秀玉剧团制作的另一部跨文化歌仔戏精品.
