PRESENT A STORY: WORKSHOP BY FILMMAKER YING LIANG 呈現一個故事

Co-presented by Singapore Film Society and The Arts House

Independent filmmaker, festival curator and film lecturer, Ying Liang (應亮) will be using his experience in filmmaking and film education to introduce the narrative concept – where do stories come from and how do we present them? The filmmaker will also talk about the cultivation and discipline of the storyteller, the writer’s technical craft and the ―inspiration‖ that cannot be taught. He will also express his thoughts and opinions on the ―anti-narrative’ movement in filmmaking. 

從應亮的創作與教學經歷出發，介紹什麽是故事，故事從哪裡來，及如何呈 現之。應亮也會談及故事講述者的自我培養，以及劇作本身所具備的一定的 技術性，和無法―教‖的部份。而對於―不講故事‖的反敘事態度與方法，應亮 也會表明自己的立場和見解。

About Ying Liang

Ying Liang (應亮) is a Chinese independent filmmaker, festival curator and lecturer in film. He graduated from the Department of Directing at the Chongqing Film Academy and Beijing Normal University and made his directorial debut in 1999. He has since made more than a dozen short films and four features, including Taking Father Home (2005), The Other Half (2006) and When Night Falls (2012) with many of his work being screened at numerous international film festivals. 

We will be screening When the Night Falls as part of SFS Talkies @ The Arts House, co-presented by Singapore Film Society and The Arts House.
