Manifest: A Tribute to Christina Sergeant

MANIFEST explores hybridity with various performing art-forms while integrating traditional and contemporary dimensions. The Production applies carefully selected poems by Cyril Wong, Michael Corbidge and Australia’s Terry Jaensch, weaving them together into one colourful show; while continuing to explore new and exciting ways and a medium for presenting poetry. Through Indian Classical and Contemporary Dance forms, Movement theatre, Music, Drama and Voice, the interpretation of these poems will be celebrating the individual, cultural and, in turn, artistic differences which are present within modern day society.

MANIFEST is a tribute to the late theatre veteran Christina Sergeant, who initiated Jayanthi into working with poetry in 2000. 

Made up of several short journeys weaved together by a thread, that is the poetic text of the poet, the uniqueness of this production is the collaboration between director Jayanthi Siva-Lecolley and a multi-disciplinary and multi-ethnic cast, which includes Indian Classical Vocalist Bhagya Murthy, actors Pavan J Singh and Sonia Kwek, Odissi Dancer Meghna Das (India), multi-disciplinary talents Linden Furnell and Elly-May Patterson and Operatic singers Cyril Wong and Sabrina Zuber

Each piece investigates and presents the respective artist’s personal perspective through their discipline in response to the words of the poets. On this collaborative platform, these professionals together with director will present an array of disciplines from both the east and the west while  juxtaposing surrealism and naturalism on the same stage.
