World Storytelling Day 2016
AMBA: Strong Women Stories (SOLD OUT)
Storyteller Kamini Ramachandran breathes life into lesser known traditional oral tales that explore the feminine. These are not damsels in distress or princesses waiting to be awoken from some sort of slumber. These are men and women who slip in and out of gender identity, with strength. These ancient stories empower us, both male and female, to look into the mirror and not turn away.
This storytelling performance also features young storytellers from Kamini’s mentorship programme.
About Kamini Ramachandran
Kamini Ramachandran has played an instrumental role in the revival of storytelling in Singapore and around the world. She grew up with a storyteller grandfather and is one of few contemporary storytellers who experienced a master-and-apprentice process of inheriting her repertoire of tales. MoonShadow Stories, Singapore’s first storytelling entity focusing on adult audiences and performance storytelling was founded in 2004 with the aim of promoting the lost art of the oral narrative tradition.
A founding member and past-President (2008 – 2012) and current Vice President (2012 – present) of the Storytelling Association (Singapore), she was also Artistic Director for the Singapore International Storytelling Festival (2012 – 2014). A highly sought after storytelling artist, she is also a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts. Kamini has been a featured storyteller at international festivals in Scotland, England, Rome, Chennai, Bangalore, Malaysia, Sydney and Belgium. MoonShadow Stories has produced World Storytelling Day in Singapore since 2005.
About MoonShadow Stories
MoonShadow Stories was co-founded by Kamini Ramachandran in 2004 with the sole aim of promoting the lost art of the oral narrative tradition. MoonShadow Stories strongly believes that if they can re-introduce the beauty and wonder of storytelling to adults, then children will benefit. Hence, they are the pioneer contemporary storytellers in Singapore to spearhead storytelling for adults. MoonShadow Stories passionately promotes the tradition by sharing oral stories to a variety of audiences both young and old, in Singapore and globally.
MoonShadow Stories organizes storytelling performances and workshops for both adults and children. They provide customized storytelling training and storytelling content creation for private organizations and government entities, educational and commercial institutions, literary and storytelling festivals, counselling and therapeutic agencies as well as provide publications and research advice.
